Cumming
Cumming was first inhabited by the Cherokee native tribes but in 1883, it become Cumming a town already rich in Gold hunting history and the promise of owning land and forging their own future. The town grew into an established area as two inferior court judges from Forsyth bought land in Cumming so that they could establish a seat to govern from. Soon after, they started selling that land in small parcels to settlers to start fresh. They began farming and while Cumming rode out the Civil War and then the Civil Rights act with much scandal and pain, it still stands today one of the oldest townships in this part of Georgia.
Like the buildings in the downtown portion of town and the old style Southern homes, the ground and the trees have all seen some of the greatest points of U.S. history occur right here. Of course, the jewelry that remains as family heirlooms and the first gold nuggets that were pulled from the ground saw it all too. Precious metal, and tiny, delicately weaved seed pearl necklaces, engagement rings from a bygone era, it has all lingered here where the memories of a nation that was just taking its first few steps are folded into the multiple layers of gold, and live in the settings of each stone.
Clothing and flooring might not be able to stick around for 200 years, but jewelry certainly can. It begs the question: What will the pieces you wear see? What will that piece of estate jewelry in the case see when it’s finally resting on your finger? Will it see prosperity and growth? Will it see hardship and perseverance? To be certain, we can’t tell what the next piece of jewelry you buy will see during its time with you, but we know what it can hold. Jewelry is more than just a becoming compilation of precious gems and metal. It’s a personality, a time period, and perhaps even a symbol of your love for someone else. Perhaps it marks the day you got your first job, or became an adult. Jewelry is as layered in meaning as it is it’s history.
